Last week I hosted one of our county’s very important person. He is a National Icon, a National Artist to be more specific, and hosting him and his lovely partner (who is my good friend) was such an honor . Imagine for a week, it was like living with a celebrity, an ART celebrity, except that they were so down to earth and so grounded that as day passed, we were like one big happy family living under one roof. They truly are such humble people which makes me appreciate them more.
Truth is, hosting him and his lovely A was an honor on its own, but when he offered to sketch me on the very last day of his stay, erm, how on earth could I say no?! I have never ever been sketched before and was so clueless what to do. Plus he had exactly less than 30min before he had to leave for the airport, so I was not sure what to expect (not that I doubted him, I doubted me more — hell, I didn’t know how to pose!). But I took his lead, and no fail, it came out perfect! I am counting it to be a keepsake, a very important part of my art collection which my kids can keep and pass on from generations to come.
“Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.“
